Then went inside again

of their homes.

Clock

I'm very happy that today I bought a clock. A task never undertaken. And this clock had been waiting for a long time. In fact it had ticked 1.67 billion times before I was even born. And every one of the ticks and tocks was the clock calling out to me. Well now we are united. And I am patiently waiting for the first gong. I am very excited.

I also bought some new slippers today. Not quite so exciting, but at least the house wont smell of rotten feet/slippers - for a few weeks. When will someone invent smell-less slippers.

The other exciting thing these last few days was the Miliband Muddle. Brothers battling out to lead the Labour Party. Not Old labour, not New labour - but apparently a new and optimistic generation. I wonder how many ticks of my clock before the General Election. I reckon about 63 million ticks.

St Peter

Today St Peter's is in London. I will not be travelling down. But will watch from a distance. I've listened to couple of speeches. Considering his age and frailty I can just about make out 'vot he svays' and although quite theoretical he is spot on when he says that the things of this world (drugs, alcohol, celebrity, materialism) do not last for ever (in fact just a fleeting moment) but in contrast the love of God does, always has and always will last forever. Well done.

I did struggle when he said he was Gods representative on earth,

I was pleased he didn't mention Henry the Eighth!

I liked the quote that "every economic decision has a moral consequence".

I don't really get the workings of the Holy See.

My big question is why the Pope (this, and all previous in recent centuries) will not eat in public. So no banquets or dinner parties, or hot dogs or even ice creams. I wonder why.

So, instead of going to London and landing a plum seat in Hyde Park, I'm going to go buy a plum tree and park it my gradually evolving garden.

In the news today,

4 interesting stories

which are worthy of comment and doubt!

First - William Hague - has he acted inappropriately. I doubt it, all that this story shows is the base nature of the British media - shame on them.

Second - Middle East peace talks - again - let hope some success, but somehow I doubt it.

Third - memoirs of Mr Blair - he's been doing the rounds of interviews to try and sell his book. I thinks he's a good chap and tried his best for the country, but will other people think this, I doubt it - people generally like to have a go.

Fourth - Stephen Hawkin - he thinks that science could explain the creation of the universe and that the big bang was an inevitable consequence of the laws of Physics. Seeing as no one can accurately describe the laws of Physics, including Mr Hawkin, and seeing as what no one can describe how the laws of physics started then I doubt he is right, I still rather believe in the God who created the laws in the first place.

Grass cutting

So there I was, all set to get up early today

and cut the grass

only to fling wide the curtains

and see the rain

landing on the grass

making it wet

and therefore unsuitable for cutting.

I could cut the hedge.

One can do that in the rain

without wrecking the lawnmower

but instead I get wet.

But not as wet as in the thunder the other day

which produced a pretty heavy downpour

which overwhelmed the gutters

and ran off the roof onto the path outside the back door

and almost reached the door level

in fact would have done if I hadn't started bailing.

I got quite anxious.

And experienced, maybe, about half of one percent

of what the people of Pakistan must be experiencing

in their dreadful floods.

I can't begin to imagine.

Today I was mostly hot except for a couple of shops I went in which were pretty cold and felt amazing and walking out reminded me of when I was in US a few years back and opened the car door and was hit by a wall of heat the funny thing was the cold shop was the one that was selling fleeces and hats and walking boots all of which I have now in prep for my trek which is almost upon me and I am so looking forward to it although I do hope they capture the guy who has a gun and is roaming around the north east of england looking for policemen to attack golly a policeman's lots is definitely not a happy one at times like this on the other hand the policeman who was directing traffic around a broken down ford today seemed to be having much more fun as was I at the time because I was enjoying a flat white and for those of you in the know you will understand that these are just great as is chunky monkey ben and jerries which I indulged in a little while back in an effort to ccol down getting back to the heat the rhubarb in the garden is definitely looking a bit wilted which is I suspect what I will be in the heat of the upstairs rooms and if I can't sleep I may well come and add some punctuation to this

Windows
I had some single glazed (old, leaking, dirty, rotten) windows replaced on Friday with some double glazed (new, dry, clean, solid) windows.
And today is about the hottest it has ever been in this house.
So on Monday the rest of the windows get done.
I'm expecting to be able to sell my boiler.
In fact, my new windows have single handedly made it the hottest day in May in the UK for nearly 73 years.
Amazing.

That is what I keep being told.
About the election result I mean:
and now the coalition
and the new politics
which is going to make our country great once more.
They say they are going to put right the last 13 years.
So does that mean they are going to close all the hospitals that have been built, sack all the new Doctors and Policemen/women. And knockdown all the new schools. Does it mean that we are going back to inflation of 15% and equally high interest rates. etc etc.
Oh what short memories we all have.
Still, I did like the David and Nick joint press conference. Reminded me of the early days of Ant and Dec on ITV.
And I felt a slight excitements and optimism.
I reckon a honeymoon period of 1 month.

Polling Station
Couldn't find a photo from the UK election - but I reckon it looked a little like this.
Not sure why people turned out in their masses just before the polling stations closed down. So not sure how much sympathy I have - except of course they could have been out at work saving lives.
Anyway, while all this was happening I decided to watch my new blue-ray Avatar disk. Only to find it wouldn't work on my player - which is a ancient 2 years old.
So 2 hours later and a heap of file transfers from the web to my laptop to the player, and I'm now running version 3.5 on the player - so all is well with the world.
And the film is/was pretty good.
Pity we couldn't upload a new government with equal success.

Bank Holiday Weekend
It's cold and wet and windy. I saw a friend wearing shorts preparing for their first BBQ and I guess that is what has sparked the complete reverse in weather patterns and sent us this wintry blast but the cherry blossom has just about managed to hang on and the new shoots are still forcing their way out.
So instead of going outside I've been thinking and trying to work out if I can prove my wife loves me. And whatever argument I come up with, I discover that all I have are pointers and what she says and writes. No scientific proof.
So I look out at that blossom, and whilst there is no scientific proof, there are plenty of pointers and evidence that God is there. No scientific guarantee, but enough the see, to hear, to touch, to taste to be completely convinced that this is not all just some freaky stroke of chance.

So, we've had our 3 tv debates

that they all have big issues

and maybe would want the power of leadership
at all costs

to be pretty aggressive
and pretty focused
on them selves.
It would be nice if they thought about the rest of us
for once.

will be a long one too.

for the election winner
will be very very long.

Golly, nearly a week
since I last wrote
and that's because
I've not been home.
But I am now.

My car cost me lots of pennies this week
brake pads, discs, pipes.
My teeth cost a few pennies

FlyBe took me on a trip to Manchester

Virgin Trains brought me down to London
very nice
National Express Trains East Anglia threw me about a bit
not good -but did get me back to Norwich.
Helped by a lovely lunch from Marks and Spencer.
The trip to Manchester was to remember Joan
my 'grandma'
who died
And is now, I imagine, singing all those hymns she loved
with a multitude of angels.
It was great to remember her
she was indeed a very fine lady.
Now I'm getting ready for Easter.

First, dear or dear, I feel weary, my youngest child is no longer a teenager, I have man flue, grey hairs abound, joints ache, wonder what's on the TV later.

Spring is here
I always reckon spring is in the air when I see lambs.
These aren't spring lambs.
But I saw the poor white one amongst the others a couple of year back.
And liked the scene.
But I like lambs better.
Why am I going on about sheep?
Well, there's been a TV about lambs and lambing all week. I've seen 5 minutes of it, and was completely bored. Sheep are not all that interesting really.
Well I saw no lambs today - because once again I was up a ladder cutting hedges.
I must have been doing it wrong though, because about three neighbours all came out and watched, hands on hips. They gave me their verdict.
I am not a good hedge cutter.
Wrong height
Wrong saw
Wrong ladder
Wrong day.
Oh well. At least it was good exercise!

Dark Stuff

So, having watched a couple of shows on TV this week I now consider myself a bit of an expert. Maybe.

This is what I've learnt.

The Big Bang creation of the Universe it not quite as it seems.

If there had been a massive and simple Big Bang, then the Universe would not be so ordered and space would not be roughly the same temperature throughout. So, there was indeed a Big Bang, which lasted a few millionths of a second, then a pause, for another few millionths, and then a rapid and uniform expansion (like a balloon blowing up) again for a few millionths of a second.

And the Universe has been expanding ever since, but much more slowly - but way faster than I can run!

However, we have more problems. Galaxies should not really exist, if you look at their mass and speed of rotation. They would fling stars and matter out of their lovely spiral shape. There must be something holding them together creating extra gravity to keep them all in shape. And that extra 'stuff' is called Dark Matter. Called 'dark' because we can't see it, have no way of detecting it, have no idea what it is. We just know that there must be 5 times more Dark Matter per galaxy than matter we can actual see.

Another problem, the rate of expansion of the Universe should be slowing down, because of the gravity of all the 'stuff' in the Universe. The stuff or 'matter' (galaxies, stars and planets) has gravity and eventually the pull of gravity should begin to overcome the energy created by the Big Bang and reign the expansion back in.

But it's not happening. In fact the rate of expansion of the Universe seems to be speeding up. Added to this, something is holding the Universe into a relatively flat shape as it expands.

How can this be? Well, there's some additional 'energy' in the Universe that is causing this effect. This energy is called Dark Energy. Again, we can't detect or observe it, yet.

I wonder what the implications are of the Universe expanding at an accelerating rate?

But the final thing I learnt is even more perplexing. Dark Flow.

Dark Flow describes a strange observation that shows that galaxies in certain parts of the Universe are flowing or moving or coming together at certain points. Almost as if something 'outside' of the Universe is attracting them, or perhaps even something massive 'inside' the Universe. Personally I like the something 'outside' theory. But what is it? Another Universe maybe ?

Dark Matter, Dark Energy and Dark Flow. Whatever you think of them, observable matter in the known Universe accounts for less than 1% of the matter/energy that must be present to make the Universe possible.

I suspect in a few days I will have forgotten my expert knowledge, or else the theories will be superseded.

I saw one, an otter, out on the river today. After a weekend of looking, walking, waiting, hoping, praying. So, it was too dark for the pictures to come out. But you know I wouldn't lie to you. It was very exciting. Just before the otter, when the sun was still smiling on me, these reeds came into view. Also stunning, but not swimming.

And that's because I spent all day running up and down a ladder chain saw in hand taking the top ten feet off my 30 foot hedge and maybe next year I'll do the next ten feet assuming that my arms and legs have recovered the chain saw was heavy after a few hours not to begin with when it was like a feather and now I have a huge pile of tree tops and hedge tops and holly and what am I going to do with it all burning would be best but that releases too much carbon dioxide and I wouldn't want to add to global warming it was nice to have warmth today however after a few months of cold and snow and I didn't see any otters today but lots of pigs mostly toy ones as it was in the pigs pub and restaurant to celebrate a friend's big Five O and I have to say it was an ace meal so I am replete as well as aching.

Amazing
It may be raining, it may be Norfolk, it may be a simple field, river or tree. But.
It is still amazing.

And so was the show at the theatre last night. Les Mis. Amazing.

In fact, life is full of amazing things - even the spider which has been in my shower room since I moved into the house. He is amazing. I've never seen him eat, or drink. but he is definitely getting bigger, and friendlier because he's moved a few inches closer to the door - I assume because he wants to move in with me in to the bedroom.

Amazing.

The Bible has 1189 chapters split over 66 books.

The middle of these chapters is chapter 595 and is a chapter called Psalm 118.

Either side of this Psalm is the shortest chapter, Psalm 117 and the longest chapter, Psalm 119.

So there are 594 chapters before and 594 after this middle chapter of Psalm 118.

594 added to 594 is 1188 - so writing 1188 as Psalm 118v8 and amazingly Psalm 118 verse 8 is indeed the middle verse of the 31,101 verses of the bible.

And what does this verse say ? There is no-one better to put your trust in than God !

But in fact was because I was getting a nice tan at Sizewell
also nothing to do with the weather.
As I was walking along the beach , I wondered whether people ever did really think the world was flat, or whether that is just a myth.
And now I'm home, the good old internet tells me that it is indeed probably a myth. No one ever did really think it was flat since the time of ancient Greeks.
Nothing flat about the power station either. It was definitely a full three dimensions - and probably other dimensions too, if they are not also a myth.

We had one this week.
