Eating lots of Jelly Babies

Headaches have a wide variety of causes, ranging from eyestrain to inflammation of the sinus, from life-threatening conditions such as brain cancers to eating chocolate.

Funnily enough, brain tissue itself has no sensitivity to pain. Therefore, headaches may result from contraction of the muscles of the scalp, face or neck; dilation of the blood vessels in the head; or brain swelling that stretches the brain's coverings.

Causes of headaches are sometimes a little elusive.

If a headache occurs in conjunction with a head injury the cause is usually quite evident! Some people experience headaches when they are hungry or dehydrated.

The most common type of headache is a tension headache. Tension headaches are due to tightness of muscles in your shoulders, neck, scalp, and jaw. They are often related to stress, depression, or anxiety. Other common reasons lead to a tension headache include performing an activity that causes you to hold your head in one position for a long time (like using a computer, microscope, or typewriter), sleeping in a cold room or an abnormal position, overexerting yourself, clenching your jaw or grinding your teeth. Tension headaches tend to be on both sides of your head. They often start at the back of your head and spread forward. The pain may feel dull or squeezing, even like a tight band or vice around your head. The muscle tension often begins in your shoulders, neck, or jaw before spreading to your head. Therefore, these areas may feel tight and sore as well.

Migraines are severe, recurrent headaches that are generally accompanied by other symptoms like visual disturbances or nausea. They tend to begin on one side of your head, although the pain may spread to both sides.

Overworking, not getting enough sleep, missing meals, and using alcohol or street drugs can make you more susceptible to headaches. Foods that can trigger a headache include chocolate, cheese, and monosodium glutamate (MSG), a flavour enhancer.

People who drink caffeine can have headaches when they don't get their usual daily amount.

So back to my headache today – I put it down to eating too many MSG infested Jelly Babies over the past couple of days. Or else stress from the resulting bulge in my waisted regions.

New Lens

Although it was gray
I was out and away
New lens in hand
and into Broadland
Which meant that the shops
Were replaced by dead crops
So I cold go and mourn
With the dead, brown, sweet corn.

Internet shopping
is fantastic
until
you want a delivery
which will arrive when you're not in.
On the other hand
if you pray hard
it will arrive 5 mins before you have to go out to work.

That was the good part of the day
but basically
today was a grim sort of day
'cos someone I love
isn't at all well.
Not good
:-(

Money Matters
Today I am poorer
than I was yesterday
and I can do nothing about it
because it's because of a
recession
in USA.
So come on you USAers
sort yourselves out.

Also today I saved some money
because yesterday I went to buy some
walking boots
but the guy in front of me buying boots
took so long
trying to negotiate a discount off the 20% sale price
that I gave up
he was in a wheel chair
which made it a touch bizarre.
So today, when I had more time
I went back
but the sale was over.
So I saved 120 Squid.

Today I decided it was time to put away a load of new clothes I've had for Christmas and my birthday, to allow me to get back near my wardrobe as I was beginning to smell. It was a tough job (well not tough compared to going down a coal mine, or shearing a flock of sheep) because the old drobe was packed jammed full of old clothes. So I got rid of a load of stuff - which had previously been washed and ironed by my dear Mrs. Sorry. I'm now sorted. And realise that I had and still have far too much stuff.

I have to say, that must be the boring thing I've ever written on this blog
Sorry.
So to compensate I'll tell you a joke:

Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses.
He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed.
The other guy whips out his phone and calls the emergency services.
He gasps, "My friend is dead! What can I do?".
The operator says "Calm down. I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead."
There is a silence, then a shot is heard.
Back on the phone, the guy says "OK, now what?"

Wind
Tonight is very windy
the trees are a bending
and the branches
(well twigs)
are descending

More than that, I sat through 224mins (over 3.5 hours) of Gone with the Wind. First time ever. and most enjoyable. A bit sad. A bit old. and if you think I'm mad for watching it on my birthday evening, then, frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.

Yes, t'was my birthday. And I had a grand day. And for a change haven't had to do any washing up, ironing, hoovering. Tomorrow it may hit me.

My Friendly Woodpecker

This little chap spent an hour or so in my garden today
Before the cat scared him away
I glad he flew away
Because he was beautiful
alive.
Plus he could have hurt the cat
with that massive beak.
How cute.
I wish he'd been closer to the window
because I can't afford
a whopping great lens.

Norwich Loss

Just to put the record right, after my last blog entry which boasted a famous victory, now I have to eat humble pie for an even more famous loss. So now I say 'let's focus on the league' - far more important than a worthless cup run.

Now onto more serious matters
Like the floods coming back to UK land
Because we thought it sensible to build on the flood plains
Bang goes any profit for the company.

Now onto less serious matters
Like my birthday in just a couple of days
start the countdown.
A friend told me that one of the side effects
of getting less young
is that you start to

Norwich win

I thought that today
I try some wordplay
With a little limerick
A trusted tactic
And a poets mainstay.

Actually, I wont
'cos I don't want to taunt
you with words that rhyme
and are simply sublime
so back to prose .

Today I read a bout a giant cloud of hydrogen, which is racing towards our galaxy - which we all know and love as the milky way. When it arrives there will be a show like the best firework show ever seen on earth - lasting for years and years. Unfortunately it will not be arriving anytime soon, but in about 30 million years. Don't wait up.

Tomorrow is Monday. And if you subscribe to the notion that weeks start on a Monday, then this will be the start of a very exciting week. A week in which I enter my prime!

This is Guinness
It's a drink
Kind of beer
I'm sure you know
Well
I had one tonight
Well
I had two
in quick succession.
They were good.
The first was good
because it was the
first beer of the year.
The second was good
because I said I was going to
be 'dry' in January.
And that's rebellious
Which is good
One Thursday a year.
I watched a programme about Guinness a
few weeks ago.
Apparently it's been taken
taken over by a real man's drink.
Rose.
I met a lady today who could have been
called Rose.
She was from London
She wore a pink top
But definitely not Rose.

Job Satisfaction

I always wonder
why
the US process
for
finding a president
is so complicated.

But tonight
I
didn't wonder much
because
I saw
Kill It Cook It Eat It
which took kid goats
from the farm to the dinner
table
in a couple of hours
very graphic
but very impressive

I will still eat
meat
but probably wont get a
job
in an abattoir

But I wouldn't want to do that
anyway
because I already
have
a great job.

A couple of days to blog about

Well, I've just got back from a little road trip to Southampton
and there is no:
needle-dropping tree
wii-winning son
lovely-looking mrs or daughter
FA Cup winning result for Norwich
untidying presents waiting for homes
appetizing food for the cats
clean tea pot

but, there is:
football on the TV
space to stretch out
wine open
liquorice all sorts

So I'm pretty happy, but a little tired.

Yesterday I had my first trip to London for a while.
I saw three different meeting rooms, 2 underground trains and three stations, 1 taxi, loads of cups of instant coffee and lots of 'new media types'. I felt quite over dressed in my jeans and t-shirt. I did spot a corner of the London eye, out of the corner of my eye, so I knew I was really in the big city.

Internet Security
If you are reading this blog
and are thinking you can learn lots of stuff about me
and maybe clone my id
or stalk me
and nick all my creative ideas
then
forget it
it's all made up.

Right, now I've got that off my chest
I can get on
with the important stuff.

Like I went back to work today
I smiled quite a bit
Not because it was work
(although work's good)
But because it was fun
and people made me smile
and I had no meetings.

What's more
I cycled this morning
It was pretty cold
But I created not very much
CO2
(that's Carbon Dioxide)
However
Tomorrow it will snow
So I'm in two minds about two wheels.

Happy New Year
2 many glasses of wine
Thousand people on the beach in Southwold today
and no where open for a cup of coffer or lunch
Ate too much already though this holiday

Yesterday I sat in the car coming home from work, in a queue because everyone else was driving to the sales, listening to a program on the radio about 2008 being the year of the environment and green issues, and we all had to do our part. Seeing as work is only a couple of miles from home and it's usually quicker to cycle, I thought I should definitely make more effort this year to jump on my bike. Especially as I don't really have a car park space. Problem is it rains too much, and I feel the cold, and I have a heavy bag usually, and I'm not so young as I was, and it's harder to nip out at lunch time . But. So out with the bike in the morning. And out with the waterproofs.

Apart from used waterproof trousers, I'm wondering whether 2008 will bring anything else?
